MADISON, Wis., Aug. 14 (Nationwide Times) — Augmental’s MouthPad is a custom-fit mouthpiece that lets users control a cursor, click, scroll and swipe without using their hands. The device is designed for phones, tablets and computers and is now available for sale and shipping to U.S. addresses, according to Augmental.

The device costs $1,400 for one unit or $1,900 for two units made for the same person. Augmental says delivery takes about six months after it receives the scan needed to make the mouthpiece.

How the MouthPad works

A pressure-sensitive touchpad sits against the roof of the mouth. Users move a cursor with their tongue or with head movements tracked by the device, Augmental says.

A tongue press can be assigned to a left click or to click-and-drag actions. A sip gesture can produce a right click. The device also supports common touchpad actions such as scrolling, dragging and swiping.

The MouthPad connects over Bluetooth. Augmental says it works with macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

Why the device is being developed

Augmental says it developed the MouthPad as another way for people with limited mobility to interact with everyday technology. MIT News described the device as part of the company’s work on technology for people with movement impairments.

The company says the device is intended for people over 18 who have sufficient tongue dexterity. The supplied information does not include independent testing of the MouthPad’s accuracy, comfort, effect on speech or accessibility benefits.

Why it is custom-made

Each MouthPad is made for an individual user. Augmental uses an intraoral or dental 3D scan to create the shape of the device before manufacturing it.

Augmental says the scan generally costs between $50 and $150, depending on the provider. The scan is a separate expense from the MouthPad.

Where it can be bought

Augmental says it currently sells and ships the MouthPad only to U.S. addresses. The company also says the device is not geo-restricted, meaning a buyer may be able to use it outside the United States after obtaining one.

Augmental announced public U.S. sales on July 22, 2026, after an Early Access program that began in 2024. The company’s website lists the product’s current price, compatibility and ordering information.

The available information does not establish whether MouthPad has received regulatory clearance, what health or safety testing it has undergone, or whether it is covered by insurance. It also does not include an independent security assessment of its Bluetooth connection.
