BAHRAIN, June 27 (World Daily Times) — Bahrain said Iran launched drones into its territory on Saturday, prompting condemnation from the Gulf Cooperation Council and several regional governments that said the strike threatened Bahrain’s security and Gulf stability.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry called the attack a “flagrant threat” to the kingdom’s security and said the Iranian regime’s continued attacks placed the responsibility on Tehran for undermining peace efforts.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned the strike as “treacherous” and said it would undercut efforts to preserve peace in the region.
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said the attack was “a dangerous undermining of endeavors for peace and stability” and a threat to regional security. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates also condemned the strike, with Saudi Arabia and Qatar saying it violated Bahrain’s sovereignty and international law.
A joint statement by Gulf foreign ministers meeting in Bahrain earlier this month also denounced Iranian assaults on Bahrain and Kuwait, called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and said Iran was fully accountable, according to the ministers’ statement.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard later said on state television that it had targeted several locations “of the U.S. terrorist army in the region.”
