SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — Leah Stewart, the shark attack survivor injured at Coogee Beach in Sydney on June 13, woke briefly in an intensive care unit this week after doctors reduced her sedation and removed a breathing tube, according to updates from her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Joshua Stewart said the short wakeful period came after his sister spent 10 days in an induced coma. He said it allowed Leah to tell her mother and her partner, Fernando, “I love you.”

He said Leah is now awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff.

Joshua Stewart said Leah had undergone multiple surgeries, including surgery to remove her arm, after the attack.

He also said Leah was reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the incident, and that it was the first night Leah and August had ever spent apart.
