WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — The Senate rejected Sen. Tim Kaine’s Iran war powers resolution Wednesday, 50-47, after President Donald Trump met privately with Republicans and criticized earlier moves to limit his military options against Iran.

The measure would have directed Trump to remove U.S. forces from hostilities involving Iran unless Congress authorized further action. It followed a procedural vote last month that advanced the same resolution, 50-47.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky voted present on the final vote, while Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted yes. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania voted no.

A day earlier, the Senate approved a separate, symbolic House-passed Iran resolution 50-48. The House had passed a similar measure earlier in the month.

Trump had pressed Republicans during a closed-door lunch in the Capitol on Wednesday. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana later said Trump “raised his voice” and that “I lost my temper.”

Trump later thanked Senate allies on Truth Social and said the vote “puts Iran on notice.”
