CAIRO, June 24 (World Daily Times) — Archaeologists working at the Panhesy tomb site in Egypt’s Matariya area uncovered a cache of artifacts beneath a burial structure containing human remains, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said in a May 31 announcement.

The ministry said the burial cache included five pairs of yellow-colored metal earrings that archaeologists believe may be made of gold, along with carved scarabs, cosmetic containers and a copper mirror.

Officials also said the find included two alabaster kohl containers with traces of ancient eye makeup, a third kohl container made of black obsidian and four stones, two of which are believed to be agate.

In images released by the ministry, the objects were shown alongside other small artifacts recovered from the site, which lies in the Heliopolis necropolis in Ain Shams. Fox News noted that Heliopolis is the ancient Egyptian city linked in Genesis to the story of Joseph.

The ministry called the group of objects the “first nearly complete funerary assemblage ever discovered in the area” and said it builds on earlier finds from the same excavation season, including mudbrick and limestone funerary structures and two coffins recovered in fragmented condition.
